MIXED MEDIA ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY
February 19, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Friday. MIXED MEDIA ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY
CONTRASTS with works by Lisa Simms and Mario Ajanel.
Posada de Santiago, Santiago Atitlán. Tel: 7721-7366
A young Tztu’jil Maya schoolteacher and dedicated photographer, Mario Ajanel will present two collections of his work in his first public exhibition, which opens Feb. 19 at Posada de Santiago in Mario’s hometown of Santiago Atitlán.
“The Colors of Your Voice” is his tribute to the language of God as represented in images from the stunning nature of Lake Atitlán.
“With the Eyes of My Soul” are photographs dedicated to the people in our lives and our emotional reactions to them — love, desire, loneliness, nostalgia and sadness.
At the same exhibition, Lisa Simms, an American expat and longtime professional artist, will be showing beautiful new wearable sculpture pieces from the Guatemalan Slingshot series, incorporating sterling silver and semi-precious stones.
Lisa will also be showing her latest paintings in oil and a new sculpture in bronze, wood and stone. Lisa’s new oils and bronze work feel like a reflection of the world turbulence that the year 2015 brought to us. Crooked politicians, church shootings, abuse of women’s rights and refugees all make an appearance here. Her current work reflects an edge of sarcasm and anger that comes with the wisdom and disappointment of being a post middle-aged feminist.
Two visions, two voices, two cultures, two sexes, and two generations = a lot of reasons to check it out. The exhibit opens on Feb. 19, from 5-7 p.m. and continues through March 14. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Sunday or by appointment: firstname.lastname@example.org.
