The cover: Central Park dress for
holiday
by Rudy A. Girón

Few might know that in 2002 a street in Jerusalem was named after the great Guatemalan humanitarian Jorge García Granados. December is not only the month to celebrate the holiday spirit—it is also a time to honor his memory and his work as an international peace and policy maker.

Christmas in Taiwan is a fascinating story of how master craftsman Lyn Hovey, his Guatemalan staff and a host of others came together to create a fantastical stained-glass pyramidal skylight that will be the crowning glory of the Episcopal St. John’s University chapel in Taiwan.

On December 12, in honor of the beloved Patron of the Americas the Virgin of Guadalupe, children dressed in indigenous clothing participate in a festive procession throughout the city of La Antigua Guatemala.
Face to Face with El Cristo Negro precedes the annual pilgrimage to the Basilica of Esquipulas on January 15 where thousands beseech the Black Christ for divine intervention.

Sensuous Guatemala; A Season for All Senses regales us with holiday sights and sounds while Torchito Carries the Flame Year Round honors the bearer of a torch and where it came to rest some 50 years ago.

The Language of Corn puts an entirely new perspective on such simple and delicious food as the tortilla and tamal. Sololá’s New Indigenous Community Museum is awash in color, both on the inside and out and the best part, you don’t have to fight the crowds.

If you are one of those people who wait to buy presents until the day before Christmas, Do It Now offers some insight and suggestions dealing with procrastination. Last but not least, don’t miss reading about the life and work of Mario Castro, an exemplary human being who has made his mark in El Salvador.

From all of us at the REVUE to all of you who are reading this magazine: Happy Happy Holidays and a Very Prosperous New Year!
